CNC MACHINING CAPABILITIES

The CNC machining department utilizes five vertical milling centers.  All milling machines are Milltronics Manufacturing Company’s 3-axis Partners.  The two Partner I units are equipped with a 12-pocket automatic tool changer with ten second change time.  Other specifications include position accuracy of .00025, feedrate up to 200 inches per minute, 400/700 IPM in rapid, and 10,000 RPM spindle.  Three of our machines are utilized in our production area and two are designated for our toolroom use and is listed later in the manual with that department.

SMART PAC

WINTRISS PRESS AUTOMATION CENTER

Some presses have been retrofitted with the newest generation of press diagnostic systems on the market, the Wintriss Smart Pac.  This system, manufactured by Data Instruments, utilizes press controls, in-die detection, control-reliable brake monitor, counting capability/batch counting, and several other functions in one package.

The Smart Pac has a large display screen, which is able to give the operator a graphic read-out of almost any aspect of press stamping processes that could be conceived.

The Smart Pac utilizes a keypad on the operator console to access the computer’s memory and make any adjustments necessary to run the press at optimum speed and accuracy.

WINTRISS LOAD ANALYZER

Four of the automatic presses are equipped with the series 2000 Wintriss Load Analyzer and die protection module.  Also, two automatic presses are equipped with the Wintriss die protection module only.  These systems provide information for each cycle of the press.  These analyzers perform the following functions:

Machine Overload Protection

§         Provides continuous information about the machine loading

§         Helps reduce breakage and wear of load bearing components

§         Can display reverse loads or stripping forces as well as piercing, forming, and coining forces

Die Overload Protection

§         When an overload occurs, the Load Analyzer Series 2000 shuts down the press to prevent multiple bad strokes and minimize tooling damage

§         Material misfeed, both long feed and short feed, can be detected

§         Slug tracking can be detected prior to punch breakage

§         Lost lubrication or galled leader pins or bushings, which change the amount of force required, can be detected.

Die Underload Protection

§         Detects press underloading which can be caused by a broken punch, change in shut height, or under-size material

§         Monitoring underload provides a valuable quality control tool in forming and coining operations.  If the shut height increases or material thickness changes, the press could be signaled to stop before a bin full of scrap is produced.

Improves Setup

§         Provides tonnage information so die setters can avoid common errors in shut height adjustments

§         Detects problems such as parallels blocking slug ejection holes

§         After the initial setup, information is acquired with the Load Analyzer Series 2000; repeat setups are quicker and easier.

Extends Tool Life

§         Detects tonnage increases due to tool wear before part quality decreases

§         Increases tool life because tool can be sharpened before extensive regrinding is necessary

§         Increases number of parts a tool can produce

Reverse Load Monitoring

§         Detects excessive reverse loads which often occur during blanking operations

§         A single panel switch makes reverse load monitoring easy and convenient.

Repeatability Monitoring

§         This corresponds the last hit made with the one to follow and compares them in percentages for a finer detection.
